250th Anniversary Posters

At the Connexional Conference the 250th Anniversary Posters were unveiled.  These twelve posters were designed to celebrate the 250th anniversary of Methodism in the Caribbean and the Americas.  The posters come in three categories or series:

  1. Know Your Church

  2. Foundation Layers of Methodism in the Caribbean and the Americas

  3. Pioneers of Methodism in the Caribbean and the Americas

The posters were designed to inform and educate persons about Methodism in the Caribbean and the Americas. They offer aspects of the history and heritage of the church in the region and gives information about certain personalities who have helped to advance the mission of the church.

In the Know your Church series only one poster has been created which looks at the doctrinal emphases of the Methodist Church which is summarized in the "Four Universals".

In the Foundation Layers of Methodism series we celebrate the contributions of the many persons who in the early history of the church in the region helped to lay a firm foundation for succeeding generations to build upon.  Eleven persons, however, are highlighted in these posters and they are representative of the many others who by their witness helped to lay the foundation for the church in the region.  The individuals highlighted are:

1.         Nathaniel Gilbert

2.         John Baxter

3.         Bessie, Mary Alley and Sophia Campbell (Antigua)

4.         ‘Black' Harry (St. Eustatius) and Joseph Paul (The Bahamas)

5.         Mary Wilkinson (Jamaica)

6.         Sarah Ann Gill (Barbados)

7.         William Claxton and William Powell (Guyana)

The Pioneers in Methodist series seeks to thank God for persons in modern Methodism who continued the mission of the church, extended the work of the church or who broke new ground in the witness and mission of the church.  There are many persons who can be categorized as pioneers in modern Methodism.  Posters were done on the following persons:

1.         Hugh B. Sherlock and Ephraim Alphonse

2.         Claude L. Cadogan and Elsie Bemand

3.         Cynthia Clare and Joyce Bailey

4.         Julia Davis and Alain Rocourt.
