Connecting the Connexion after the Earthquake in Haiti
In addition to the prayers each Congregation is being asked to receive a special offering for the relief efforts in Haiti. This offering will be used to assist the present recovery efforts that are occurring in Haiti because of the devastations caused by a 7.0 earthquake on Tuesday, January 12, 2010. Reports being received indicate that an unprecedented catastrophe has occurred in our Caribbean neighbour. Recover efforts will be for the long run. Relief agencies have advised that tt the present time what is needed is cash. Donations of non-perishable goods, clothing and other items will be needed latter but at the present time the immediate need is for cash in order to purchase the aid supplies which are desperately needed at this time. Methodist members are therefore being asked to “dig deep” into their pockets and to give generously to the offering being received in their congregations on Sunday, January 17, 2010. Remittance of this offering will follow the usual protocol of the Church. Persons who are interested in making a special monetary contribution to the relief efforts in Haiti may also do so by either giving to the special offering on Sunday, January 17, 2010, or by sending their cheques to the Methodist Conference Office, PO Box 9, Belmont, St. John’s, Antigua. Cheques should be made payable to “Methodist Conference – Haiti Relief”.
