Words of Wisdom

Week 18

COVENANT RE-ACTIVATED

Read 2 Samuel 9

FOCUS:

A covenant has been made between Jonathan, a son of King Saul and David, a servant of King Saul. It's David's promise to Jonathan that he will never cut off kindness from Jonathan's family.

Today, David is King and in remembering the covenant he has made with Jonathan, he looks for someone of the house of Saul to re-activate this covenant. Listen to the heart, mind, soul and spirit of a true covenant maker, one whose word is binding.

" Is there anyone still left of the house of Saul to whom I can show kindness for Jonathan's sake?" (2 Samuel 9: 1)

FACTS:

  • It is David who has suffered the hatred, evil and banishment from the house of Saul, yet these do not stop him from wanting to re-activate his covenant with Jonathan even though Jonathan is no longer with him in the flesh.

  • It is David who initiates the first move to find someone, anyone of the house of Saul, not to punish and blame, but to shower kindness upon.

  • It is David who accepts Mephibosheth, a helpless, useless son of a king, who sees himself as "..a dead dog..." and gives him new life, as a reigning king's son.

  • It is David who has this 'found' one, crippled in both legs, change residence just so he may always come to eat at King David's table, "...like one of the king's sons...."  (2 Samuel 9; verse 11b)

FREEDOM

On the first Lord's Day of the New Year 2011, Covenant Sunday, did you accept the invitation of Jesus to re-activate His promise made for you?

Will you believe that He has sent His Living Word to find you, not to blame and punish you for all your wrongs against Him, but to shower blessings upon you for God's sake?
Just as David does not show kindness to Mephibosheth because of any thing he has or has not done, but solely because of his father Jonathan, will you not accept renewal for the sake of Almighty God, your heavenly Father?

Is not Jesus,  Love that came down at Christmas, still seeking all believers that none will be omitted from His obedience of love to the Father?

Will you read St John's Gospel chapter 17, again? Will you not see and hear Jesus before The Father, as He prays for you also, one He loves and wants? It is Jesus who says to God,

"Father, I want those you have given me to be with me where I am, and to see my glory, the glory you have given me before the creation of the world."  ( John 17-24)

All you are being asked to do, is accept Jesus' longing to have you with Him. Though you may be a Mephobisheth, Jesus wants you to accept re-activated covenant and live with Him as a King's true daughter or son.

Be changed! A great New Year, an unimaginable New Beginning awaits you with Christ Jesus. Accept the Lord's desire to have you live with Him and feed daily at His table.
